Remedial education helps children reach their potential.

Project Manosakha

Started in 2011 by Dr. Swati Bharti and Ashish Anshu, Project Manosakha supports underprivileged children through education, nutrition, and mentorship. Initially serving special children in Hyderabad, the project expanded to Pune in 2016, aiding migrant workers’ children. In 2021, it began supporting the children of female sex workers in Budhwar Peth, providing academic sessions, personality development, and counseling. With CSR support, Manosakha empowers these children and their families for a brighter future.

Success Story

Academic

Rakhi’s parents migrated to Pune in March 2022 for better work opportunities. They have a family of five, which includes her parents, two brothers, and herself. Her father is a daily wage laborer and a mason, and they live in a small tin-shade apartment. Her mother is a housekeeper. Rakhi was admitted to the Manosakha project in August 2022. She was unable to get a school admission as they had migrated in haste and had not acquired proper school-leaving documents. Manosakha’s teacher and coordinator visited various schools for her admission. She was admitted to the government school Anand Rushiji School in Wadgaon Sheri under the Right to Education (RTE) Act thanks to the efforts of the Manosakha team. Rakhi’s mother tongue is Hindi, and she has been having trouble learning Marathi and English. With regular efforts from her teacher and focused learning, she started to learn Marathi by writing, reading, and trying to converse. She has also started to learn English, and now she recognizes capital and small alphabets. She is enthusiastic about learning something new every day and has developed a keen interest in studying. Besides studies, she loves art and craft activities.

Art & Craft

Both the Raju siblings, Ragini and Ankit, are studying at the Manosakha Vadgaon Sheri center. Ankit is a third-grader at Anjali English Medium School, and Ragini appeared for the eighth grade at National Children’s Academy University. Ankit and Ragini regularly attend all of the project’s activities. They particularly like engaging in artistic and crafty activities. The art and craft programme was run by Manosakha teachers on a weekly basis. Both of these siblings awaited the craft activity with anticipation and enthusiastically participated in it. Ragini is a talented young girl who makes a variety of crafts expertly. Without adding to her time commitment, she could quickly make any craft item. The wall hanging activity was taught by the Manosakha teacher in September. She was the one who completed the wall hanging quickly and neatly. She created the Christmas tree and bell in December. Both Ragini and Anikt created lovely Christmas decorations from scratch. It appears to be extremely lovely. Children’s craft work was complimented by teachers and their classmates.

I attended a fun Ganesh idol-making activity at the Wadgaon Sheri Center, organized by Purnkuti with support from Mastercard. It was my first time using clay, and I loved creating my own unique Ganesh idol with colorful molding clay. I felt proud of my work and enjoyed seeing my friends’ amazing idols too. Thanks to Mastercard for making this possible! Looking forward to more fun art projects in the future!

Purnkuti has helped me improve my language writing and speaking skills. I couldn’t read or write English before starting class. What others are saying to me in English is understandable to me. I can now read little words and characters in Marathi & English with ease! I can now write short phrases and read the newspaper in English.

Rakhi

The art and craft sessions have motivated me to try new things, engage in creative activities, and have made me more confident. The art and craft programs are fun, and engaging, and foster a sense of creativity and self-expression in me. I love attending these sessions
